Frankfurt Germany has a population of 2.6 million to as many as 6 million throughout the extended metro region, depending on who is doing the counting.  At any rate, Frankfurt is located in the middle of one of the great urban centers of the world.  Technically it is the  fifth largest city in Germany, with an in city population of 670,000.

Frankfurt is considered to be an alpha minus city and highly important in the global economy
