Silicon Valley Companies
There are a number of silicon valley companies that are key players in the internet and technology sectors. Located in the region that includes the Bay Area, San Jose and home to a number of dot com success stories, silicon valley consistently provides some of the highest paying jobs in the technology sector.
Companies that are based in the Silicon Valley
Adobe Systems
Adobe manufactures software and solutions in a number of areas, the most widely recognized being the pdf file document system which is frequently encountered on the internet.
AMD
Advanced Microchip Designs. AMD is a primary competitor to Intel and provides the chips which run computer systems.
Apple
A constantly innovating company, founded by Steve Jobs. The Apple corporation has brought devices such as the i-pad, the i-phone, and the Mac to the market.
Cisco Systems
A huge player in the internet architecture business, Cisco Systems handles the routing and hardware systems that are the backbone of much of the internet.
eBay
The leader in online auction systems. The eBay corporation has other business ventures, but is primarily known for its core system which serves as a middleman in a vast number of property transactions.
The current search engine leader, Google is known for its ability to gather and sort data in a highly effective and efficient manner. Positioned as an internet search portal this company is a leader in a number of innovative informational product lines and tools.
Hewlett-Packard
A personal computing manufacturing giant. HP is also heavily invested in other hardware sectors, in particular peripherals such as printers, scanners and photo making devices.
Intel
The Intel Corporation is a leader in the semi-conductor and chipsets industry. They produce lines of chips such as the Pentium series and are constantly innovating to make personal computers better and faster.
Intuit
Intuit provides tax software and is the maker of the popular quick books accounting software system.
Nvidia
When it comes to graphic cards, Nvidia is one of the top manufacturers. When it comes time to upgrade your system to play the latest games, the latest Nvidea graphics card is likely to be the one you choose to install.
Oracle
Oracle is a major player in the business software and hardware environments. Having recently acquired Sun Microsystems, Oracle is one of the key internet companies. The CEO of oracle, Larry Ellison is consistently near the top of Forbes 500 richest people in the world list.
Symantec
Creators of Symantec’s Norton Anti-virus suite, this company is a major player in detection and elimination of internet virus, trojan’s worms and other hazards to internet navigation. Their products are frequently bundled with out of the box, store bought pc’s and laptops.
Yahoo!
One of the big three in search. Yahoo appears to be entering into a search partnership with Bing, the Microsoft offering. They are also restructuring having entered into an advertising partnership with Chikita. Yahoo has one of the deepest internet site databases and extensive crawling technology. By combining forces with competitors they are attempting to gain search market share against the dominant industry player.
In addition to these companies, there are a number of other Fortune 500 companies who make their home in Silicon Valley, San Jose and the surrounding area. A vast multitude of startups also are in this high tech region.
Where is the Silicon Valley
Located in Northern California, the entire Santa Clara valley area is considered to be part of what is referred to as Silicon Valley. The region generally encompasses the southern San Francisco Bay area and San Jose. The term itself is often used to indicate the high technology sector in general.
